Work on site as a building contractor rather than as a firm bidding for projects? The contractors page covers that.
What we found in your trade
Of 72 construction companies we tested in Nairobi, 42 had no working website. 29 of those had paid for a site and then let the domain lapse — the single most common failure in the whole audit, and the one that looks worst on a tender document.
These numbers come from the Nairobi Web Audit — 566 businesses tested in August 2026, method and limitations published in full. We don’t name the businesses.
Why it matters for construction companies
A dead link on a tender document is worse than no link
Leaving the website field blank reads as small. Filling it in with an address that does not resolve reads as a company that stopped paying its bills. Procurement teams check, and that is exactly the inference they draw.
Diligence happens without you in the room
A developer, consultant or financier shortlisting firms will look you up long before any meeting. Whatever they find, or fail to find, is the entire impression until you get to speak.
Completed projects are the whole argument
Capability statements live or die on evidence: what you have built, at what scale, for whom. A site is the only place that record is available on demand and up to date.
What your site actually needs
Not a brochure. The specific things a customer in this trade looks for before they get in touch.
- A company profile that can be sent as a link or a PDF
- Completed projects with scale, client type and year
- Registrations, categories and certifications
- Leadership and team, with real names
- Contact routes that reach a person the same day
Prices are the same as everywhere else on this site — KES 25,000, 45,000 or 75,000 to build, then a small monthly amount that keeps it online. The domain is registered in your name, not ours.
Things people ask before they hire us
We win work through tenders and relationships. Does a website change that?
It rarely originates the work; it protects it. Prequalification documents ask for a web address, and everyone shortlisting you will look. The site is a diligence asset more than a marketing one, which is exactly why a lapsed domain does disproportionate damage.
Can the site host our company profile and capability statement?
Yes, and it should. A profile that lives at a link is always current, can be sent in seconds, and does not sit in someone inbox as a stale 40MB attachment from two years ago.
Should we publish our project list publicly?
Usually yes for completed work, with client names only where you have permission. Where a project is confidential we describe scale and type without identifying the client.
What does it cost?
KES 45,000 is the usual fit for a company profile with a project portfolio, KES 75,000 where you want the projects written up properly as case studies. Then from KES 5,000 a month, which includes the domain renewal that caught out 29 of the firms we audited.
